The war abruptly interrupted the prepublication of this adventure on May 9, 1940. At that time, neither Captain Haddock, nor Professor Calculus, nor Marlinspike Hall had yet joined the Tintin saga. Eight years later, Tintin magazine once again published this episode. With brilliant humor, Hergé was to reintegrate those formerly absent into the reworking of the adventure he undertook to complete. In 1950, the album was published. But the world changes, and in keeping with current events, a new, somewhat modified version would be offered to the public in 1971.
