This figurine depicts Erasmus Mulligan, the owner of the "Western Circus". Volume 55 of the Lucky Luke saga, by Goscinny and Morris, borrows the circus's name for its own title. Serialised in 1969 in the magazine Pilote and then published in 1970 by Dargaud, this album gives pride of place to gags of every kind.

The story revolves around a rivalry between competing attractions. On one side, the big annual rodeo run by Zilch. On the other, the Western Circus, a newcomer. To put a stop to this competition he deems harmful, Zilch decides to hire Rattlesnake Joe to bring it to an end. As always, Lucky Luke gets caught up in the conflict.

The Western Circus features several performers, notably Vanessa Mulligan, Erasmus's wife, whose speciality is the trapeze, and Daphne, their daughter, a knife thrower.
