The dune buggy (sand buggy) is a vehicle that fully embraces the Californian spirit. It was invented and developed by surfer Bruce Meyers, who wanted a light, fun and affordable machine that people could take to the beach.
The replica we present here is that of a one-off model customised by Con Ferr. Painted in reddish orange, it is the best-known model, the one made famous by Steve McQueen in the 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair. The engine is now a Chevrolet Corvair unit, the headlights no longer stick out of the bodywork, the tyres are wide and the windscreen wraps around. The miniature is fitted with suspension.
