The Adventures of Tintin, Reporter for Le Petit Vingtième, in the Congo (1931) reflects a colonial and paternalistic era. For this new adventure, Hergé is still improvising the story, but not for much longer. Barely back from the USSR, Tintin heads off to Africa. Having become a sorcerer in the kingdom of Babaoro'm, Tintin foils the traps of a band of gangsters who want to control diamond production in the Congo. Africa, depicted in a naive way, reflects the paternalistic mindset of colonial Belgium in the early 1930s.
