Considered one of Hergé's most beautiful creations, the story of Tintin's adventures as a reporter in the Far East was published in black and white in the Belgian youth supplement between August 9, 1934, and October 17, 1935. It marked a turning point in Hergé's career and sealed his friendship with the sculptor Tchang Tchong-jen.
