Asterix
Small in size, immense in cunning: Asterix is the shrewdest warrior in the village. One sip of magic potion and the Roman legions go flying. Winged helmet, blond moustache and Gaulish common sense at all times: he is the one the village sends on missions, usually flanked by his inseparable Obelix.

Obelix
Having fallen into the cauldron as a baby, Obelix needs no potion. Menhir carver and delivery man, wild boar enthusiast and master of Dogmatix, he is the quiet strength of the duo, with a sensitivity you would not guess at first glance. "These Romans are crazy!"
Dogmatix
Obelix's little white dog, an ecologist before his time: he weeps for every uprooted tree. First appearing quietly in Asterix and the Banquet, he owes his name to the readers of Pilote magazine, before earning a series of his own.

Getafix
The venerable druid of the village, recognisable by his long white beard and his golden sickle. Sole keeper of the magic potion recipe, he guards it jealously: Obelix will never be allowed a drop. Sage among sages, he is the one everyone turns to when things go wrong.
Vitalstatistix
The village chief, majestic on his shield, carried (more or less well) by his two bearers. Brave in the face of the Romans, he fears only one thing: that the sky may fall on his head. Though as he says himself, tomorrow never comes.
Impedimenta
The chief's wife runs her majestic husband with a firm hand. She dreams of the elegant life of Lutetia and sometimes looks at the village with a sigh, but woe to anyone who attacks it: she defends it tooth and nail.
Cacofonix
The bard. Convinced he is a misunderstood artist, he sings at the slightest opportunity, which the village has learned to prevent: at the final banquet he is found tied up and gagged at the foot of his tree. His lyre never did anyone any harm.
Fulliautomatix
The blacksmith, and the most expeditious music critic in the village: he is the one who silences Cacofonix from the very first notes. Grumpy, burly and always ready for a brawl, especially when the fishmonger across the way praises his wares.
Unhygienix
The fishmonger, touchy on one single subject: the freshness of his fish, delivered from Lutetia by ox cart, which explains a great deal. Casting doubt on it invariably triggers the great village brawl. First appeared in Asterix in Spain.
Geriatrix
The village elder: ninety-three years old, a fiery temper and a walking stick faster than his shadow. Quick to point out that things were done differently in his day, he is married to a wife as young as she is pretty, which is his great pride. Indestructible in a brawl.
Panacea
The prettiest girl in the village, first seen in Asterix the Legionary. Her mere presence capsizes the heart of Obelix, who forgets all about his menhirs. Married to Tragicomix, she remains one of the rare beings before whom the colossus turns shy.

Julius Caesar
The eternal adversary. Conqueror of all Gaul (well, almost), Caesar takes defeat after defeat with the dignity of his rank, and even proves a good sport at times towards these indomitable Gauls who exasperate him. His resin figure catches him mid-declamation: "Veni, vidi, vici".

Cleopatra
Since Asterix and Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt with the famous nose has been part of the family. Hot-tempered and magnificent, she bets Caesar that her people can build a palace in three months. Her resin figure carries one of the character's most delicious speech bubbles.

Edifis
The most approximate architect in Alexandria, tasked by Cleopatra with building the famous palace. He comes to seek the help of his old friend Getafix, whom he greets, in the French original, in perfect alexandrine verse. Clumsy, warm-hearted, unforgettable.

Redbeard and his crew
Their role never changes: crossing paths with the Gauls and ending up sunk. Baba the lookout announces the disaster, old Pegleg comments on it in Latin quotations, and Captain Redbeard goes down with dignity. The most faithful running gag of the series, album after album.
