Plantu invites us to rediscover Tintin, thanks to the perspective he brings to Hergé’s work as well as to the world. Hergé and Plantu: two multi-talented artists, two chroniclers of their time, two indispensable drawn bodies of work. The former, after trying his hand at press cartooning, let his genius burst forth in the many adventures of Tintin, among others. The latter, after a foray into comics, asserted his sharp eye and mischievous line over the decades, most notably on the front page of the prestigious newspaper Le Monde for fifty years.
This special issue invites these two minds to converse across eras, even though they never met. The influence, sometimes unconscious, that Hergé had on Plantu, visible in the latter’s many drawn tributes; their shared themes; their openness to the world and spirit of exploration; their animal companions—one a dog, the other a mouse—are all bridges this book offers, inviting us to (re)discover two teeming universes.
