The war brutally cut short the serialisation of this adventure on 9 May 1940. Back then, neither Captain Haddock, nor Professor Calculus, nor Marlinspike Hall had yet joined the Tintin saga. Eight years later, the Tintin magazine ran the episode once again. With his brilliant sense of humour, Hergé brought the once-absent characters back into the reworked adventure he set out to finish. The album was published in 1950. But the world was changing, and so, to keep up with the times, a slightly revised version was offered to readers in 1971.
