In Tintin in America (1932), our hero confirms his calling as a righter of wrongs, taking on the mobster Al Capone, the gangsters of Chicago and scoundrels of every stripe. Even here, Herge shows a generous view of the world, calling out, for instance, the behaviour of white settlers towards Native Americans. Tintin's fame reaches across the Atlantic, so much so that when he arrives in Chicago, in the thick of Prohibition, every crook and villain in league together lays on a decidedly uncomfortable welcome. Tintin will need all his courage and all his wits to survive!
